Pentru sănătatea, bunăstarea și fericirea pisicii tale, acordă o mare importanţă vizitelor periodice la medicul veterinar. Cunoscută şi sub numele de „boala mută”, hipertensiunea arterială la feline este deseori trecută cu vederea pentru că nu prezintă simptome vizibile. Studiul Mercury*, condus de Ceva Santé Animale, oferă cele mai concludente informații despre ce înseamnă hipertensiunea arterială pentru felinele noastre.
- *Studiul Mercury este cel mai amplu studiu observațional pentru măsurarea tensiunii arteriale la pisicile cu vârsta mai mare de 7 ani. Mai mult de 10.000 de măsurări ale tensiunii arteriale au fost efectuate pe pisici din 20 de țări diferite, devenind astfel cel mai mare demers făcut vreodată.
- În urma studiului, 40% dintre felinele testate au fost descoperite cu hipertensiune arterială, cu 30% mai mare decât limita normală. În același timp a fost confirmat și faptul că incidența afecțiunii crește odată cu vârsta, 13 ani fiind vârsta medie a pisicilor diagnosticate cu hipertensiune arterială.
- Vestea bună este că 9 din 10 pisici testate în cadrul Studiului Mercury au fost liniștite și cooperante atunci când li s-a luat tensiunea arterială, așa că la următoarea vizită la cabinetul veterinar puteţi solicita această testare pentru pisica voastră.
Ce este hipertensiunea la feline?
Hipertensiune este un termen medical pentru tensiunea arterială crescută. Ca şi în cazul oamenilor, în ultimii ani s-a constatat că un segment important al populaţiei de câini şi de pisici suferă de hipertensiune arterială.
Un studiu recent arată că un procent de 74% dintre proprietarii de feline nu au auzit de hipertensiunea arterială la pisici. Ca și la oameni, nu sunt simptome vizibile cu ochiul liber, de aceea hipertensiunea poate rămâne nediagnosticată o perioadă lungă de timp. Afecţiunea este numită adesea „boala mută” deoarece rămâne nedetectată până lovește brusc, cu consecințe catastrofale. Și în cazul pisicilor, la fel ca la oameni, riscul de hipertensiune crește odată cu vârsta și cu afecțiunile renale.
Majoritatea pisicilor sănătoase vor avea o tensiune arterială cuprinsă între 80 și 150 mmHg. O pisică este considerată hipertensivă atunci când tensiunea arterială depăşeşte constant valoarea de 160 mmHg.
Ce înseamnă Boala Renală Cronică la pisici?
Hipertensiune înseamnă că sângele circulă prin vase cu o presiune excesivă ce poate cauza sângerări în 4 organe vitale. Poate afecta atât ochii, rinichii, inima, cât şi creierul.
În Studiul Mercury, 1 din 3 pisici cu hipertensiune arterială suferă şi de boală renală. Boala renală este o afecțiune serioasă şi des întâlnită la pisici. Ca și în cazul hipertensiunii, boala renală rămâne ascunsă o perioadă lungă înainte să apară primele simptome.
Cum se tratează hipertensiunea?
Tratamentul hipertensiunii arteriale este esențial în prevenirea sau limitarea deteriorării unor organe importante, de aceea medicii veterinari vor prescrie un tratament anti-hipertensiv sigur și eficient pentru pisica diagnosticată cu această afecţiune. Desigur, orice afecțiune primară care poate fi cauza hipertensiunii va fi tratată de îndată ce pisica a fost diagnosticată. După începerea tratamentului, tensiunea arterială va fi verificată periodic și doza medicamentoasă va fi ajustată dacă este cazul. Tratamentul împotriva hipertensiunii arteriale este pe viață.
